Egg freezing

Indications of egg freezing are following

• Advanced age
• Treatment with CT and pelvic RT for cancer.
• Women with risk factors may be candidates for fertility preservation before ovarian failure ensues

1. Endometriosis who may experience reduced ovarian reserve post surgery (Elizur et al., 2009)
2.  Autoimmune diseases requiring gonadotoxic treatment

    3.Primary ovarian insufficiency POI.

4. Fertility preservation in gender reassignment surgery.
5. Emergency oocyte freezing : when male is not able to produce sample

Advantages of egg freezing ( social )

• genetic parent using their own frozen–thawed eggs
• It reduces the risk of having children with chromosomal abnormalities associated with ovarian aneuploidy.
• In addition, for women who do not have a partner or for women who have moral concerns about the status of a developing embryo, egg freezing may be a preferable alternative to embryo freezing.

fertility preservation in cancer patients

• Oncologists should discuss the implications of chemotherapy on fertility as early as possible during cancer treatment planning.
• Refer patients to reproductive specialists to discuss the probability of iatrogenic ovarian failure and possible FP options.
• It is imperative that patients receive timely and accurate information but unfortunately only one third of cancer patients recall discussions regarding the impact of treatment on their future fertility
